Does any one run a second fuel filter on their Toyota Lancruiser 200 seriers v8 turbo diesel as i am worried about bad fuel which could make the injector pump faulty or the injectors fail ?

We have run a pre filter on our D4D hilux for the last 3 years for the same reason.

The type we use has a glass bowl at the bottom that is used as a water trap.

On our last big trip a few months ago we were about 50K out of Kings Canyon and the factory fuel filter light came on warning of a restriction.

We replaced the factory filter first...it was the oldest filter been on since new, reset the warning light but 100k later the light came on again.

Replaced the primary filter, reset the light and alls good.

So it seems the primary filter did it's job.

It's cheap insurance.

On another note we always try and buy fuel a large truck or popular fuel stop, this is one of the reasons behind us being able to carry 330 lt's of diesel in tanks if needed.....we can be more selective on where we buy diesel.

I buy my fuel from servo's that turn alot of diesel over
not to sure if i need a second fuel pump for the second filter as might lose pressure with line restriction

I about to fit a Water Watch device to my D40 Navara. Had a bad experience recently with some contaminated diesel and decided that $500 or $600 is much cheaper than rebuilding the pump, rail and injectors in my common rail turbo diesel.

Thanks
Had a look at the web site that was linked to your response and very impressed, looking for more info about if i need a second fuel pump, might do some ring a round later. I am hearing about a few of cars that have had injector pumps being rebuilt from contaminated diesel
