Ji Guys,
Here is a quote from a letter I received from Hayman Reece date 30/1/2008 when I was chasing up why the difference in capabilities between early and later vehicles for towing.
“Toyota changed the rating on the 80 cruiser in August 1996 to
3500/350kg.
We have to rate our towbars with the rating they say the vehicle can
tow.”
And Toyota's reply after contacting Hayman Reece.
"The towing capacity for the 80 series Land Cruiser is 2500kg with
trailer brakes, and without trailer brakes it is 750kg.
Unfortunatley we cannot comment on the hayman reese product as it is not
a toyota genuine part.
You may have to call Hayman Reese to seek further assistance.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
We recommend that you do not load the caravan over 2500kg."
Hmmm,
I have also been told that there is no physical difference between the two bars, only a part number.
But the law is the law and we must stick to it other wise our insurance companies will screw us.
