There was a great report on the 7 30 report on the ABC tonight. It had great footage of both the Cooper and
Warburton creeks and Lake Eyre plus the flood plains. Amazing the amount of bird life that has gone there to breed but hope that they don't perish when the water dries up like last year.
Also showed a tour operator doing boat cruises in tinnies down the
Warburton and into Lake Eyre, that would be an experience not to be missed. Also showed Stephens ferry.

It was Rex Ellis doing the tours. His book on canoeing down the Cooper in 1974 makes good reading.

As Sally has said it was Rex Ellis but did not say where he was departing from.

Hi Murray
We have just got back from up there, but did not see the report on the TV. What I can say is that they are taking 2 tinnies upstream of the Cooper ferry site for about 100 kilometres, then will retrace there track and by that time they hope to make it all the way into Lake Eyre.
Cheers

Hi Stephen
Rex Ellis is doing his tours down the
Warburton into Lake Eyre and on the 7.30 report he had three boats with him. The people with him were all seizing the once in a lifetime experince just like you have been. Your probably the only OE member who can say that he has kayaked over the
Birdsville Track, lucky buggar.
Would love to see it myself, keep up your excellent reports and photos for those of us that can't make it.
Cheers Murray

Hi Murray
Yes Rex did have 3 boats, 2 aluminium tinnies and one rubber ducky. When we were there they only launched the 2 tinnies and were heading upstream on the Cooper.
It seems strange that the TV report said that he was going down the
Warburton, as he will not be able to get to it from the Cooper, not unless they plan to get there boats out of the water and head further north west for the
Warburton.
If you have the chance, it is one destination that you would love, as it is so hard to explain the sheer volume of water out there on the Cooper.
As for kayaking on the Cooper, that was a must do, even if it was rather windy and a cool breeze.
Just do the Nike saying, and "Just Do It" and you will have a ball.
Regards
Stephen

Fabulous Adey,
Thanks heaps we can't get the A.B.C. We love that country when it rains especially and have family and family history in the area. We were so dissapointed not to be able to watch the show. Thanks for your effort! Good on ya!
Take care, safe travels.
With best wishes Ma.
