Hi All,

I found a thread from a few years ago re this...Just checking if any updated info.

Does anyone know where a can purchase large clear plastic bags (either online or in Perth) that are suitable for gathering water via transpiration method from vegetation.

Thanks,

Pete

Pay a visit top the local bed retailers, they would be throwing out large heavy duty bags.

We always carry large garbage bags - black or green in colour. Never had to use one for water catching but they are there if needed. While these may not be ideal they should work as the amount of water given off (transpired) by a plant is governed by temperature as well as light. A big orange coloured bag might do better - worth an experiment to see?

Try a moving company- I moved interstate using Wridgways earlier this year and they put a fabric beanbag of mine in an enormous clear plastic bag. They might on-sell them too.

To collect water from vegetation by transpiration you need CLEAR plastic bags. Black or coloured bags don't work as the plants need sunlight for it to work. They need to be strong and non-toxic. You can buy them from Bob Cooper HERE. Heis in Perth.

Hi Fred,

You can collect water overnight when there is no light - that water presumably comes from plant respiration which goes on all the time. So the colour of the bag would not matter in those circumstances.

There are a lot of factors that will affect water production, and photosynthesis in many plants will still occur in low light conditions. Certainly if I was in need of water I would use whatever coloured plastic bag that was available!

Maybe Ill do a little experiment....

Thanks All - as far as I can see Bob doesn't do the bags seperately... Will try my luck with some bedding outlets...
