I have noted in several publications, including the Camps updates that the free
camp in the bed of the
Gregory River just out of
Gregory Downs is closed. Not so, & no signs or other to indicate otherwise either. Plenty camped there 2 weeks
or so ago, including Motorhomes. Campers we spoke to were doing day trips to
Lawn Hill &
Riversleigh on a roster, with some caretaking the camps of those away for the day. This was among the best free camps we encountered, & while
Adels Grove has its charm, it is expensive with no power. The National Park was
crowded with small sites, but upgrades are taking place. If you are visiting in tandem this spot is a very good option & a very nice place to
camp.......oldbaz.
PS.. The Central Hotel in
Normanton has the best feed on the gulf.

Thanks for that Oldbaz. We hope to be in the area in about 2 weeks no doubt battling the crowds what with school holidays coming up.

Not anymore.
Just be careful as a lot of these spots on the
Gregory are private property and quiet for a reason.

It certainly is a beautiful spot - we did see on the day we stopped there in September last year - a '
ranger' supervising folks to move right along as it was NOT a
camp area. There were about three to four rigs set up and asked to move along.
Cheers - Mobi
