ye you can drive up the beach from the ferry and take freshwater track, you come out on the main road into rainbow beach so you go back onto the tar for arounf 5 km, this would be your last fuel stop before inskip and the gatewayto fraser island

hope this helps

cheers

Is there still a track across to the beach on the other side of the headland? You used to be able to do it but low tide only.

Hope this is what you wanted. Yes, there is still an overland track heading north where the barge comes Inskip Pt onto Fraser, but we were able to drive via the beach 'road' at 1/3 low tide in a 4x4 with no salt water on the wheels. This was last month. The ferry blokes will advise the best exit at the time of your arrival.
Enjoy life ... you're a long time dead.
Geoff.

Leisha track runs behind the headland at Double Island point. At times in recent years it has been impassable due to erosion on the north side but as far as I know it is ok to use at the moment.
If you take this track you will have to negotiate Mudlo rocks before getting to Rainbow beach. I think they are passable at dead low tide at the moment.

Check conditions report here http://www.derm.qld.gov.au/parks/cooloola-northern/index.html
