Hi, would appreciate advice if 4 nights at Uluru is a good amount of time, given that the first night we will be arriving late in the day (from Coober Pedy), so really 3 full days. I thought that would give us 2 days to explore the rock and the cultural centre, see sunrise/sunset on separate days, camel rides etc, and a 3rd day to drive out to Katajuta. Then onto Kings Canyon for 2 nights and Alice for about 5-7.
PS we will be there late August. I know the nights will be cold, how about daytime temps? Will the resort pool be freezing cold?
Cheers RTD

It depends I guess

One full day 2 nights was enough for us we got in from alice in the mid afternoon with enough time to scout the area and set up for sunset photos. Dawn photos the next day and a good look round. More sunsets and one more set of dawn photos and we were ready to head on.

Howdy

Just make sure you take about eighty thousand dollars per day with you - it would have to be one of the dearest places to visit in Australia !

Happy Travelling

Yep although I was pleasantly surprised to find that a powered camping site costs $49 per night - pretty reasonable compared to other caravan parks we have stayed in the past. I'm going to try to stock up on food too.

hi
we just had 2 nights there and had enough time for a good look around. We arrived around lunch time bought park entry tickets $25 per person for three days, you can enter as many time as you want. We saw the sun set over the rock on first day and looked around the next, the climb was closed for the two days we were there due to wind so you may need the extra time if you want to climb it. The Olga's take a day also to look around.
Caravan park $39 per night for two. Not sure how much it was for extra people though. We heard prior to staying there that the park was noisy and not very clean but we found it the opposite and enjoyed our stay. They even have a supermarket that was on very reasonable.
temps through the day were ok although not warm enough to swim for us anyway.

Roadtripteaming,

I have spent a little time there over the past year, my daughter worked there for the past 12 months.

4 nights is plenty (3 possibly better), make sure that you do sunset and sun rise at Kata Tjuta (Olgas) which I found more impressive than the rock.

Apart from the Olgas and the Rock there is very little else to do. There's a 9 km walk around the rock and 7km walk in the Valley of the Winds at the Olgas is good.

The only other good thing to do is a flight over the rock and Olgas, there is an extended on that does lake Amadeus and of course a camel ride....

Restaurants are expensive, the IGA shop is limited in content and you must carry your "slip" to be able to buy drinks at a bar....

Cryo vac some good meat.

Three full days is plenty for a busy tourist to appreciate what is on offer in my view; but you'll probably want to go back in a few years and do it again ! Couple of notes - several years back (we've been there 2 times - happy to go again) the unpowered site fees, the supermarket prices and the fuel prices were all reasonable considering the location (but the whole place is mono-corporate - there is no competition for any commodities!!). What was a shock was the price of a beer - all liquor pricing was extortionate ! Its a good idea of course to take everything you can carry in to such places, but in the case of liquor, its absolutely vital ! BTW - the Olgas are great - possible the highlight of the park - and there is a great tourist interpretive centre right in the Yulara admin complex too (not in the shopping complex - further along) - worth seeing.

Hi Roadtripdteaming

I am currently at Ayers Rock campground, been here for 4 weeks, leave next week, except the rock and the olgas, there is nothing else to do. I am going stir crazy looking at my tent walls. Only here so long because my partner is doing some work here.
The tourist season here officially started last weekend, there are tour groups and bus loads of kids on school trips coming and going everyday. Noisy but not too bad, usually stops around 10pm. the ammenities on the other had are quite grotty after 60 teenagers have used them, but still they get cleaned regularly.
I reckon 3-4 days here is enough. $25 pp for park entry for 3 days, come and go as you like. a sunset at the rock is a must! i reckon 2 days at the rock and cultural centre and a full day at the olgas will give you enough satisfaction. But if you plan on doing all the walks at both places, you will need a good rest. lol.
Sunset has been around 6pm cst, i notice a lot of people come in late arvo, setup then do a sunset, it does count as day 1 of your 3 day pass tho.

Days have been around 20 degrees, the coldest time is usually around 7am @ 1 to 5 degrees.
The only thing the pool will be good for is to keep your drinks cold- definitely a no go zone i reckon.

I have to recommend the pioneer buffet $52 a head but all you can eat. We had crocodile, roast camel, smoked roo, oyters, prawns, antipasto, chicken, barramundi, atlantic salmon, smoked salmon, haloumi, cheese plates, and a huge range of beautiful desserts. we definitely got our moneys worths, my only tip is to just order the tap water- cause a beer will send you broke.

hope you enjoy it here.

Anthony

We were there July last year, -3 on a couple of nights, but we were not cold at night as we rugged up and wore beanies to bed.
During the day, we just wore shorts, T shirt and a polar fleece depending on the wind and our activity level.
3 nights, 2 days adequate. IF you plan to climb The Rock, be flexible as it is closed for climbing more often than open.
As said above, the grog prices are just unbelievable, you can only buy at the Bar. The IGA was great. We had a Camper Trailer and were not near the tour groups, but we found it no noisier than most CP and the amenities good and clean. It was better than expected.

We enjoyed Kings Ck Station & Kings Canyon more than Uluru, especially if you want to learn anything about the region.
I saw some kids in the Pool, we guessed they came from southern Vic or Tasmania.

I agree, 2 days (3 nights) is plenty of time to see it all and climb it as well (provided it is open!).

If you enter the park via the old abandoned section of the Gunbarrel and come in from "the back door" past the Olgas, you'll save the $25 per head entry fee :)

I guess it's not worth their while to catch up with the handful of cars coming in from the west.

Cheers

granted it was a few years back but unpowered sites there were cheaper than Geraldton for example

probablly 2 days would be enough
3 would make it leusurly

pretty much sunrise sunset pics, walk to the top walk around it and the valley of the winds walk

just a tip if you see the climb is open drop whatever plans you had and climb it
- theres no garantee it will be open again while you are there
