plenty highy

Hi all can someone please help me with info on camping along the Plenty Highway and the Donohue Highway. Can we camp alongside the road near the river or creek crossings or do we have to stop only in approved camp spots. Any other general info on the roads also would be of help thanks.

Creeks and river beds are public acccess if accessible from a gazetted road.
I'll leave it at that other than beware flooding rains in some parts of Australia.

Camp anywhere you like.
No one really cares out there.

We use the basic facilities provided at Stations there because there were both fuel and hot showers available, and the people on those stations are the friendliest people you will find anywhere, in the world.

Cheers

I am not sure about the free camping but there is bugger all to camp behind on the Donohue you would have to pull up in the open probably in the wind

On the plenty you have a much better chance of a half decent spot to camp Jervois is good at the moment $15 per vehicle with plenty of buffal ? grasss around to provide a green vista. We stayed at the spotted Tiger near Harts Range $7.50 per person and would again. Currently its being done up and the toilets are good (pit) We used our own shower in the amenities block. Toilets and showers are scattered about the park. Fires are ok and the bush setting is awesomne

Road in good nick we averaged 80klms with camper although conditions variable from dual lane flat hard road to bumpy potholed and corrugated road to single lane

just wondering the condition of the plenty from Stuart Highway to Boulia, is it still corregated and rough between Jarvious and Tobermorey?
with camping most of the stations dont mind people camping off the side of the road, there are a few spots along the road designated to camping and rest sites but never heard any problems!

Worst of the roads was between Harts range and the Border but I cant remember exactly where (It was a long way home) but nothing extreme and mostly able to travel at 70klm plus. Corrugations were for only short periods

Jophca,
Last year we camped beside the Arthur Creek which is about 70 km east of Jervois. We turned right off the plenty highway on the east side of the creek and down about a kilometer. There was enough fire wood and it was a nice camp.

Regards,
Bob
