G'dsay all,
Since owning a mob telephone I have not had the use of a watch. I was thinking of a
camp clock and wanted to know what you use when camping.
Damien.

Hi Damien, One of the joys of going camping is not having to look at time LOL.
Wouldn't it be possible just to continue using the mobile for the time even if you don't have a signal or even the car clock. I think a clock is just another thing to pack.
Cheers
Mark

I agree Mark, but sometimes I like to know what time it is. I will keep the mob phone turned on. its annoying to turn the ignition on to see the time in the car as it turns the gps on each time then I have to wait till it goes through it's process to operating stage.
cheers all, Damien

Hi Damien, I have the GPS plugged into one of three lighter plugs that are hard wired to the second battery as I found that as you have, it is a pain each time you turn off the ignition.
But in regards to the clock, they used to have travel clocks that were a wind up affair and came in its own case which formed the mounting for placing it on the table etc. They were not that big so would not take up much room (75mm x 75mm x 25 mm) when closed approx. No idea if you can still get them but for what you want it would be ideal. PS. I would guess by now that they are battery operated.
Cheers
Mark

I think watches might even catch on, for you know, telling the time.

Damien,
I have a great unit that can project the digital clock onto any feature so the whole
camp knows what time it is. Another benefit is that as the seconds are constantly clicking over the image keeps the possums away.
Let me know if you need the details.
Cheers

Why would I need to know the time at night when camping? I don't need a clock to tell me when it's time to grab a drink & sit by the fire nor one to tell me when I'm tired & should go to bed ;-) For me that's the whole point of camping.
Cheers Craig........

The Tin Lids gave me a clock/alarm/weather station that is designed for camping. Not that I have taken it away with me. Best feature is that it gives you the barometric pressure, rising or falling barometer and the next day weather expectation. Sits on the Tele cupboard and the weather forecast is generally fairly accurate. Yesterday, it said that we would get a little rain today and tomorrow will be sunny. Hope so. I live in the Riverland of SA so you can
check our forecast on the net. LOL
It is made by basecamp. It measures 100mm long, 50mm high and 30mm wide.
I have no idea of its cost or where it came from as per my opening comment.
Tried to find it on the net but can't find it there. Need to find the instructions now as I need to reset the time LOL

Damien, I bought at
Mobil in
Birdsville a small travelling clock (tells real time not digital) and it has a button on top ride hand side and when you push it a light comes on so you can see in the middle of the night. Cost about $14 - maybe $18 can't remember (and I only bought 3 of them about 2 weeks ago). Brilliant - so good that I bought one for every bedroom in the house (already had one in the camper). Sorry, no brand name on the clock and I've thrown the packages away.

There's several battery clocks in BigW that may suit, or you can hunt for a clock/thermometer with min/max of ebay - its always good to know exactly how cold it was overnight!

Spent two months travelling. Wore a watch, which was mostly kept in the car.
Sun came up, it was morning. Hungry during the day I ate, Sun went down it was evening. The mobile was also kept in the car. Did not turn it on once, except on the way
home to ask the neighbour to turn hot water system on in the house.
What did everybody do 10/15 years ago before mobile phones were readily available?

The Monday after I retired I took my watch off to work on the car. And forgot to put it back after washing my hands. It was upstairs and I was in the garage. Next day I CHOSE not to put it on. Its still on the bedside table. That was in 2005.
We don't care what time it is in the bush and use the sun as the clock. Easy to just see where it is and you can usually be withing an hour.
But then we do not have any billy lids or other family to worry about.
Ah The pleasure.
Do you really need one?
Phil

Hi Jim
Dont have any scheds these days. The radios aren't even set up. Too much internet and computer talk so I gave the ham radio away but kept the licence and radios. The
Wilson is still way up there. Phone is flat and at
home. Besides I had won the contests I wanted to win. Chuckle.
I cannot find you in my old ham log. Did you ever log VK1DX or my other call VK1PJ?
There is always the clock in the car if I need it.
Phil

I haven't worn a watch all my life. Even before mobile phones. However I find I now like to have a clock at night. Why? Because when I wake up on a cold night in a cosy bed and need a Pee, I have to decide if worth getting up or waiting. I
check the clock and if its close to sun up I'll wait. If its 2 or 3 in the morning I'll get up and go back to bed. So thats why I like a clock when camping. I still don't wear a watch in the daytime.
Cheers Tony.

Hi All
The only TIME I'm interested in is Beer Oclock, or Sundowner Time, and when it's time, I head over to the 4by and get a Coldy out of the Engel, and then I wait for Tea Time, then later on it's Bed Time, and if I'm lucky it might be Cuddle Time, but that's Dream Time lol lol.
Cheers
