it is as long as you take it slow there are some very tight corners from arond Lorne to Apollo bay, also if your going from Colac to Lorne or Colac to Apollo bay, but if your not in a hurry it will be fine and there are areas to pull off if you get a few cars behind you

Just take it easy, we did it with 20ft Van and it was fine plenty of pull-ins if cars behind . Just don't do it in Peak Periods unless you book into Parks ahead of time gets extremely busy.
Cheers

Greetings Funai,

There are lots of "pull off" places so if you get worried about cars behind you, you can pull over to the left and let them pass - as stated, take it easy at your own pace that you are comfortable with and you will be fine - enjoy the views and the trip.

Funai,

We travelled the GOR awhile ago going from West to East. Not too many troubles although we were not towing a caravan.

Be warned ........ the locals like to spend less time on their side of the road ............. and more on yours .............. lol

Great place to see and enjoy your trip.

Cheers,
Wayne & Sally.

We have been along the Great Ocean Road and apart from tight corners its just like any other twisty road with blind corners. Drive accordingly and it will be a great drive.

As we do not tow anything I really appreciate the comments about letting faster vehicles past by justmyage and roadrunner above. So, Soooo many dont.

Enjoy the sights.

One thing no one else has said is that MOST of the pull off places are on the left GOING SOUTH. One exception is the big park at the Apostles.

You also get the best views travelling in that direction by far. We went to Appollo bay and did the rest slowly and really enjoyed it.

The helicopter ride $90 Ea at the Apostles gives you a far better view and appreciation of what those shipwecked faced when coming ashore

We had a 21ft6 van and had no troubles.

X2

Much more room to pull off on the left when heading from Anglesea to Apollo Bay.

Geelong to Anglesea no dramas, just like any other highway.
Anglesea to Lorne a bit tighter, but not too bad.
Lorne to Apolo Bay is the good bit (depending on if your towing or not)!

If your not restricted by the time you travel try to avoid the weekends, as lots of poeple from Melb. shoot down there on a weekend for a cruise/hoon (especially the motorbikes that like to lean over around the bends).

Like others have said, watch your mirrors and use the slow vehicle turn offs and enjoy the view they and the lookouts offer as it makes it a much nicer trip for all!
