G'day Duncan, I read a review of this car towing a 1300kg folding Jayco campervan & the results werent encouraging. Not enough grunt apparently.
Clutch slipping on take off & no ability to maintain even a moderate pace. A shame really as, on paper, this looked a likely unit for the job. I have read another view as a non tower & the result was more favourable. Others may have more direct experience but it appears this thing is only good for very light towing
duties. cheers....oldbaz.

We have a 2004 Petrol manual model and the book states the same towing capacity...however I would never tow anything bigger than a box trailer. Towing 1700 will mean the trailer is almost as heavy as the car if not heaver.
I would not feel safe at all
