I have the book 'Bush Camping With Dogs' and have been to many of the 'known' camping areas within a few hours of Sydney. The problem is theres lots of bogans and ferals about as well as noisey trail bikes and a lot of the campsites are full of rubbish and worn out.

I was wondering if any Oz Explorers would be willing to share their secret places away from the bogans/feral-types and over-used camping areas. Prefer dog-friendly as I usually take my mutt. I'm not a real off-roader...have an Avan and an Outlander so can do firetrails etc.

I hear some people have pricate/secret places in the Watagans and similar places. if you are willing to share good camping spots but don't want to publish them here, my email is tabten67@bigpond.net.au and yes I can keep a secret!

Would also pay a reasonable fee to camp on someones private property. I don't need electricity or water or anything.

Hi gh1967,

Try Wollondilly River Station on the Wombeyan caves road. It's a great spot and pet friendly. It will be dam cold this time of year though.

It's a bloke private property, the website says no need to book but take it from me and others on this forum your best letting him know your coming, he gets a little irate.

We took our dawg for a trip up the Bridle Track (near Bathurst)- and overnite camped at Hillend. I don't know if Hillend is a National Park area- but when the Park Ranger came to collect the camp fee in the moring, she patted our dawg, and even threw a ball for her !! So I gather it musy be OK.
Just be careful on the Bridle Track coz there is signs warning of 1080 baits laid.

Even though the whole town of Hill End is controlled by Nat Parks, its a rare one in allowing dogs !!

You can also have a dog at Newnes...but only at the paying sites near the old pub ( technically not in the Nat Park )

Recently went along the Bridle Track and there are some good camping spots but towing a trailer could be a bit hairy and is not really recommended.
Wollondilly is a good spot but as mentioned call Brian to make a reservation, his bark is worse than his bite. You could also continue along to the Wombeyan Caves but that is not dog friendly. You can also take your dog into state forests, but you may have to put up with trail bikes.
