Hi all,
We've been on the road for about 12 months now. Landcruiser 200 VX towing a 21' 6" Sunland Longreach van. Done lots of km's outback gold detecting and meeting some terrific OZ folk.

Just had vehicles 40,000km service performed at Bundaberg Toyota. Didn't realise until next day that the drivers side door had a scratch/paint chip on the face of the door near the edge. Looks like the door had been open on to the hoist post or something about waist height. Went back to dealer (after I had regained my composure) and you don't have to be Einstien to know what their response was. I might add that I am fastidious with the vehicle and it was gleaming before it went in.

My advise to anyone who cherishes thier $100,000 + Landcruiser (and there are lots out there) is get the Sevice manager or advisor to do a quick check of your vehicle with you before and after the service. As I am now up for a repair to the door at my expense.

Kind Regards to all. :)

Dave

I feel your pain, another good idea is a few simple digital phots taken witht the date on the photo (camera setting) as a record of panel work prior to getting your vehicle serviced.

A few shots of the doors guards etc along with an interior shot from the drivers side, in case the greese monkes leave oil on the seats etc, in the past I also set the trip meter to 0 so I know how many km's they have done in my car.

all the best

Thanks turbo!
That's probably the way to go with the dated pics. Will certainly be doing that next service, which won't be there.
Cheers, Dave

Make them drive it up on the hoist it was on and see if anything matches with the scratch.

Was it in a car park afterwards. I hate them and park away in the corners from where the popular bits are.

I have just had my 100 serviced and on comparing costs with previous service found that Toyota have charged me $50 for two oils seals when a 4x4 place in Bussleton only charged $36 for the same part nos.

Guess where Im off to shortly.

Hi Graham,
Putting the car back on the hoist was my initial thought however I got a negative reception in that regard and it was suggested that the 'Service Technician' (what a title for the bozo) "would have to admit to doing it and thats not likely" Like you I'm very careful and rarely park near other vehicles even if it means long walks. That's why the vehicle is or was in pristine condition.
Thanks for the reply and we might catch up with you on the road.
Regards Dave

The piece of paper that you signed when you booked the car in should have a walk around diagram on the it. Its were the service advisor marks down any damage when you are booking the car in. Ask them to let you have a look at the paper and them tell them that there is no damage marked on the page.
They should have done a walk around with you when you booked it in.

I can fax you a copy of what its mean't to look like if you want. The only thing that you have against you is that you have driven the car away and not noticed the damage at the time of picking up the vehicle

Thanks Stevie
I don't think these guys have got that high-tech yet. Maybe some years away to having a walk around check sheet/vehicle condition sheet.
Thanks for the offer of a copy of the sheet unfortunately no fax in caravan.
I guess the sheet is the same as the one you fill out when hiring a vehicle.
Cheers Dave

Had that happen to me and I managed to get the dealer to go halves, off course when you drop the vehicle in it's at your own risk legally. I have also had a nail go through a sidewall on a $500 tyre that was new on another vehicle and got them to go halves.

Why am I not surprised. We live in the area. I am surprised that you left your vehicle with them... did you have a look at their service facility ...out the back first ?

When it came to buying a new Toyota sedan for SWMBO and after visiting the local guys we bought from the Toyota dealer Hervey Bay and not because of price.

Thanks Benny,
You can't beat a bit of local knowledge. We will keep that in mind as we are probably going to reside around the Bargara area when the travel bug wears off

Sshh... Quietly quietly about the Bargara place. Its a forgotten paradise and prices have settled considerably since the southern state people have had difficulty with retirement super etc.

We try telling people about the giant sandflies and the crocodiles in the main street and the total unfriendliness of the place.

See you soon

I had 2 injectors replaced in the gutlux at Bundy toyota. 1 full day for each and guess what the common rail started really pi55ing diesel out not long after. It isn't a very well set out workshop and the spare parts guys won't even look up a radiator hose without a VIN, they look at you blankly and say I don't know how to do it.
This is why I do all my own maintenance and if I can't be bothered fixing something I go to the workshops recommended by others.
Cheers

Good move Tour Boy :)
I'm a fitter by trade and usually do most of my own work however Toyota entice you with a very cheap service plan which if done properly is good.
Thanks for the reply mate.
Regards Dave.

My brother had his 200 series serviced by this dealer once, he was so disgusted that he wrote to Toyota Australia and complained, but was advised they have had no complaints and that this dealer was highly regarded??? He now takes his vehicle to Toyota dealer in Harvey Bay and is very happy with the staff and servicing.

I Can vouch for the quality of the Hervey Bay dealer, however I have not heard a good word about the Bundaberg dealer. Might be time to spend your money elsewhere.

I wish I could keep my truck and Jeep free of scratches. But I do understand how it would make you less than happy. The last time I had my Jeep serviced at a dealer I had spent about 15 min. yelling at the service manager about the shoddy work.
