Bargara - QLD

Bargara (frequently misspelt or mispronounced as Bangara) is a thriving coastal town located 13 km east of Bundaberg. This seaside locality features an idyllic sub-tropical climate that makes it a highly sought-after destination for caravanners, campers, and four-wheel drivers. Originally established as "Sandhills" in the late 1880s, the modern township sits at the edge of the Coral Sea, separated from the main city of Bundaberg by expansive, vibrant green sugarcane fields. Today, it functions as a fully equipped beachside hub complete with a major shopping village, fuel stations, dump points, and caravan-friendly amenities. The town's foreshore is defined by a scenic 6km paved Esplanade pathway, ideal for walking and cycling, which connects the main vibrant cafe strip to various parks and beaches. A highlight for families and snorkellers is The Basin, a unique, sheltered swimming pool built out of local volcanic rock formations on the northern end of Kelly's Beach. Just north of the township lies the globally significant Mon Repos Conservation Park, which hosts the largest concentration of nesting marine turtles on the eastern Australian mainland between November and March. For panoramic views of the entire region, travellers can head slightly inland to The Hummock Lookout, a remnant volcanic cone providing 360-degree vistas over the ocean and the surrounding patchwork of agricultural fields.You can swim all year round here, with several beaches stretching from Neilson's Park to the north to Kellys Beach to the south.
