Hi I am feedback info etc.
I have a Toyota fitted towbar 2500kg and have seen some photos where these towbars have snapped. They appear to be a cast type metal.
I was going to replace the tow bar with a H/Reese or similar bar using HR weight distrib bars but was told it was not advisable to fit onto a Prado 120.
However speaking to my local Toyota dealer they couuld not see a problem with plenty of Prado combinations using WDB
My c/van is a tandem with atm 1865,gtm1700,tare 1465
My main concern is not a level unit and decrease on the steering
wheels.
The way I see it is with 3 options
Use the Toy bar with no added gear?
Toy bar and air bags on the reat of the vehicle?
I was wondering what other peoples opinion on the
forum have to say.
Thanks seawasp

Get a Hayman reece Towbar and WDH
There was a post on here where a cast towbar broke and the van ran away as it breaks in front of where the chains connect to.
I know the owner and he fitted a bar made in WA but similar to an HR
As an aside Airbags are NOT a substitution for a WDH and dont and cant restore weight to the front
wheels.
Do it once, do it right and stay safe.

Hi Seawasp
I would encourage you to change the genuine Toy towbar. I have broken
mine in WA. Google 'Prado Towbar Failure' and it will answer your questions and give lots of info.
Talk to your Toy dealer and ask what the changes are on the towbar that fits the 150 series Prado as you will see the changes that have been made because of this problem. The main change is the location of where the chains are attached to the towbar. It has gone from underneath the towbar to above the towbar. This has come about, I believe, to the many failures of the 120 towbar being used with a HR tongue
