what do people think about towing a large van with a Nissan Navara.
Good or Bad...
we are looking at a daydreamer 23ft and now looking for a vehicle to tow it with.

Its not how big it is

Its how heavy it is

Whats the ATM on the vans compliance plate.

If its over 2750 I would look for a better vehicle like a Cruiser or a big Patrol.

No sense in pulling the guts out of a small motor when there are more capable ones available

From my experience with big boats, you can do it, however extra power and weight in the tow vehicle will give you much more comfort and safety, and the bonus is you won't find yourself in a road rage situation when you hold up a line of traffic doing 70 kmh.

Hi roff 76. IMHO I would look at the T/Diesel cruiser however a good one is not cheap. The problem with the patrol is they are under powered but if you wish to tow at below the speed limit of 100kp/H then I suppose go for it. However here ar some figures for you to consider. Nissan Patrol GU 3.0 ltr Diesel 5 speed manual....Kerb weight 2455 can tow a braked load of 3200KG. Power 118 KW...torque....38o NM. Nissan Navara 2.5 Diesel ST-X D40, 6 Speed Manual. Weight 1920 KG....Power 126 KW.....Torque.....403 NM. As you can see by my figures....ooops sorry Nissan's Data....the Navara is far more powerful & lighter than the Patrol. So in MHO weight for power ratio there is only one winner in the Nissan stakes & that is the Navara.....HOWEVER.....if you don't mind dual fuel the 4.8 Petrol Patrol is a real power horse & should be considered. Although "Out dated technology" they are reasonable value for money & a good strong unit. I don't & won't tow a large van mainly because there is SWMBO & me. I love the comfort & engineering of my NT diesel auto Pajero. Each to his/her own.....ps. The 3.2 Diesel Pajero NT leaves the patrol & Navara for dead!!!

Roff
We are 1000km into our 3 month trip in a 2006 2.5 Diesel stx Navara,Towing a 3000kg 5th wheeler.Apart from an initial timing chain problem, everything is OK. We have been averaging around 17 to 20 litres per 100km,sitting on 2500 to 3000 revs. The haul up the Toowoomba Range was OK.
I will let you know more in 4000 kms'
