Just back from a 5000k trip towing a van and I gotta say 99.9 percent of other drivers had impeccable road manners.

Only saw 2 candy cars in that time and not one speed trap.

Other drivers seemed very relaxed with most obeying the speed limits and overtaking in sensible places.

Met some realy nice people and saw some old mates.

helped a young fella Sean who had stalled his Mack and had no air to start it, gave him a lift into a logging area to get an operator for the logskidder he had on his float.

He had excellent manners and was ever so appreciative.
Here is a photo of what you need for a tow start.

G/Day Rockape

I can only assume from your statement that 99.9 % of drivers had good road manners, you were not travelling on the Bruce Hwy in QLD.lol

Glad you had a safe trip.

The only time I used the Bruce was from the Mt Morgan turn off back to Mackay last Sunday. Again no one was hassling and I had a bit of a yarn to a truckie south of Sarina.

Have a good one

If it had no air then how did you get the brakes off to tow it?

On the truck/Trailer axles are mounted the brake Booster, usually attached in a special little adapter is a long shaft fully threaded and a small T on the end and Nut on the other end, It's usually stored in the part marked red arrow.

When needed you loosen the nut and remove it from the tubing it's kept in, then insert it T end into the hole as shown in photo below , twist it so it locks in then with a spanner wind the nut in , that pulls the brake linings away from the drum releasing the brake , each wheel must be done separately, if a semi-trailer is attached to the prime mover it's better to unhook it rather than the 6 on the trailer if it's a Tri.

Doug,
good diagram. Young Sean didn't gave to back the maxi's off,he had plenty of air for the brakes just none for the air start, there must have been a problem with a valve in the system.

Nice to carry a spare starter motor on the back though.

i think you just found out who "stole the tees" lol.

i have just clicked over 10,000kms on our trip around oz so far. i agree- 99.9% of road users really are courteous, i polite wave here and there, a signal to say its safe to overtake and pull back in, a quick message on the cb to let people know your intentions etc. It really does make for a pleasureable drive.

For the other 0.1% who are knobs- well, just hope one day they will see the light!

The revenue raisers......sorry law enforcers plan it that way, you dont see them till you get the fine in the mail usually.

Obviously you weren't speeding.Good fella!!

REVENUE RAISERS? Are you referring to the cops? If so I thought Police in every state stopped you when you were speeding & issued a ticket. You must be referring to the speed cameras or Safety Cameras as some states call them. Here is a fact, YOU are blaming the wrong people it's not the cops or the speed camera operators that are at fault it's you. You see the posted speed limit is the maximum you can travel at not 105 or 110. I would be correct in saying that the average vehicle travelling Australian roads has a speedo that is between 4 & 10 kp/H out in accuraccy. So if you are driving your vehicle and the speedo is showing 100 kp/H you are probably travelling at anywhere between 90 & 100 k/pH.....that's why Mr Truck driver operating his big KW is right up your bleep on the open hwy because his foot is flat to the floor if he is speed limited to 100. You are well below the posted limit why? Ask the Federal Govt who for a long time have allowed vehicles to be driven on our highways with speedos that are up to 10% out....why is this so well because it is written in the ADR or Australian Design Standards. Three tips for you. 1. HOW TO BEAT SPEED CAMERAS & radar traps....Don't speed. If we all kept to the speed limit there would be a big loss in revenue for the Govt but they know us Mugs cannot not stop speeding so it's shooting ducks in a barrel. Tip number 2. HOW TO BEAT THE BREATHALYSER.....Don't drink & drive!!! Tip 3 How not to get caught using your mobile phone whilst driving.....Turn it off when you are driving somewhere....that way you won't be tempted!!! NO I AM NOT A COP OR A SPEED CAMERA OPERATOR.

Capital THANKS for the tips.....but I use my gps phone as my speedo, more accurate so sux that I have to break tip 3 to follow tip 1. Luckily I don't drink so tip 2 is in the bag but I am pretty dull at parties. Is there a tip 4 like close the sunroof when it's raining to avoid internal dampness? Sorry buddy just kidding, I do agree with what you have said. Have a good one. Mike

The wifey rented a Britz Camper a couple of weeks back, just to see how the other half lived & we went for a drive down to & around Townsville.
It was very blowey on the way down & at 80 it was hard driving. I was not surprised that so many cars pass us at 80.
What realy surprised me was that on the way back up there was no wind & I sat on 100 & the same amount of cars passed me.
It was unreal. I thought it was the Britz decals that did it, but it was the same yesterday going down in the Hilux at 100.
Seems 100 kph is just not fast enough for the majority on the Bruce Highway any more. Thats why I hate driving on the bl--dy thing.

Hey Fatso,
I never care what speed people do, as long as it is safe and they don't hassle me.

On our recent trip, all the people were courteous and behaving themselves when overtaking.

As an EXXXXXXX professional driver (that's what they call them today), I can say, that I have made some horrible mistakes/blunders and got away with it, so I am no Angel.

On the trip, there was almost no police presence and the other drivers were great.

That says something to me, people are becoming more patient before they do something on the road.
