After advice from others on this forum it seems to me the Landcruiser HDJ 100R 6cyl 4.2 Turbo Diesel would suit me for towing a van (tare 177kk approx) and on trips to outback areas. I'm looking to buy a low km 1991 - 1995 model.
Is there anything I should be aware of !!!

Hi Duncan,
I think you've got your year models mixed up mate.
91-95 is a 80 series. I believe you would be looking for a 2000 onwards for a HDJ 100R,
Cheers

Yeah, i was scratching my head, Not to worry.
Probably because deep down you really want an 80 1HD-T

Hope you find one, I was just looking through some of the online sites like Countrycars.com, Carsales.com and there are more petrol ones in that year model for sale than TD ones. As I told a mate recently, patience, one will turn up and don't buy the first one that comes along.
Cheers. And happy trails when you do get your hands on one. :)

post sept 02 you will get the A750F 5 speed auto.
While I havent heard of any probs from the 4 speed, the 5 speed has been well proven as solid smooth strong and universally (havent personally heard of a failure yet) reliable unit.

Also read this comment from another forum. The refer to issues with the gearbox on the non-turbo 100 series.

When looking for your car some have aftermarket turbos fitted. Still same gear box as non-turbo unit. The turbo models are upspec on the details and strength.

Also someone has put up a comprehensive run down on Landcruisers here
