Hi all, looking for some recommendations for caravan stays in the
cunnamulla and
thargomindah areas. Nissan Patrol towing an older Viscount, just the two of us, older too like the caravan. Thanks in advance.

Hi echucabarry
We have stayed a couple of times at the
Explorers Caravan
Park at
Thargomindah. It's a nice
park, and would recommend it. If it's warm enough, you may even get a feed of yabbies from the Bullo River, adjacent to the
park.

In
Cunnamulla there is the Jack Tonkin Caravan
Park which is good with clean facilities. Not sure about the
Show Grounds which is listed in Camps 5 (the show was on when I was there in May). Also about 40km north on the road to
Charleville there is Nardoo Station, never stayed there, however I'm sure someone here has some info to help you.

We were there about 18 moths ago and on Wednesday nights Tonkin CP have a 3 course meal around the
camp fire for $20. If you can recite poetry or tell a few yarns I think your meal is free.
It was excellent value and good fun.
The caravans were parked very close together but OK for a night.

Hi
Do not stay in town!!!
Stayed at Nardoo. Cheap with power and
water available. Simple amenities but hot showers. Great
camp fire that all campers gather around at night and one of our highlights of the travel through the out back. If you have never been to
Cunnamulla once you driven around around you will appreciate the opportunity to stay out of town!
Dont want to offend any locals but my honest opinion
They were shearing whilst we were their and great for the kids.
Cheers

Thanks family guy, you are quite right, we stayed in
Cunnamulla (not by choice) as we were going to go out to
Thargomindah then back to Nardoo. But they had both had a big dump of rain the previous night and both parks (particularly The
Explorers at Thargo) were quite wet. So we have put them on the back burner and came up the Bailey Bar CP at
Charleville. Highly recommended CP,
camp oven stew, damper and apple crumble last night for $15. We do the
Bundaberg,
Rockhampton,
Longreach loop and then come back to Thargo and Nardoo. Thanks again.

There is nothing wrong with staying in
Cunnamulla. There might be quite a few dark people in town but most of them are proud of their town and work and look after the town.

If you are into
free camping, there is good
camping (with no facilities) along the Paroo River just to the west of
Eulo (CAW 5 - Q834.) There is also
camping at the back of the
Eulo pub (CAW 5 - Q833.)
If you have time, a trip to
Yowah or
Hungerford is worthwhile.
Yowah is an opal mining area, there is a caravan
park and a cheap
camping area (both with hot showers.) On the
Hungerford run there is a couple of
good camp grounds in
Currawinya national park and a caravan
park at
Hungerford.
If you go further west there is
camping at Noccundra.
Camping is available at the hotel and also on the banks of the
Wilson River. Hot showers are available near the hotel (donation to the flying doctor, contribute at the hotel.)
From Noccundra you can continue on a good bitumen road around to
Quilpie. If you intend to
camp at
Eromanga, check the showers out, we did not and found them putrid. The fuel in
Eromanga is the cheapest in Qld, straight from the refinery.

Thanks Nomadic Navara, we will do that
Quilpie trip in reverse coming back down from
Winton or
Boulia. Some good tips, all appreciated.
No disrespect to
Cunnamulla, would stay there any day or night rather than DUBBO for example.
