Are there any tricks to getting the tyredog system working?

I've got the 8 WTPMS. The first time I set it up the two front wheel sensors registered the initial pressure and temperate and then didn't change after driving around for an hour. In the same time the rear wheel sensors worked perfectly.

I then pulled the batteries out of everything and did whatever the instructions noted - put it all together and now three of eight sensors are not registering. I haven't had time to take them for a drive yet.

We have a 2006 LC100TD cruiser and have mounted the relay just inside the rear bumper on the drivers side. The monitor is up on the dash.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

regards

John

I have a different make but installed the relay box in the battery compartment in the front of the van.

Putting it under the car sort of defeats the purpose as you are then shielding it with all the floor metal etc.

If you havent taken it for a drive they probably wont register as most makes require the wheels to rotate to wake the transmitters up.

Mine take a few hunderd metres to register each time I go out as they go to sleep to conserve battery life if there is no movement.

Go for a drive

A reply to see if you fixed the problem would be nice.

Then we can share the info with otherrs if it is correct.

Too many ask a question and then never let us know the result.

Cheers

Haven't had a chance to get to it yet Graham - unfortunately I'm still one of those people that goes to work before the sun's up and gets home when it's gone out. Saturdays a bit different - only half a day there.

I got a reply back from Tyredog. Their suggestion is to mount the relay up on the cargo barrier or on the rear roof rack - I don't have a roof rack so that ones out. It's interesting that their website says to mount the relay under the vehicle - that's why I put it there.

I'm thinking that up high on the inside of the rear window might also be worth a try.

Your idea of putting it in the boot won't work with the Tyredogs because all sensors rely on the relay to get the signal to the monitor. I want to be able to use the system with or without the van attached.

I'll have another go tomorrow afternoon.

Work is a dirty word after 53 years of it.

Interesting, as my set didnt have a relay box even for the van.

My Roadstar seemed to lose signal on L/h side wheels so got the relay to pick them up.
Did make a difference but sold the van.

Have installed it in the front of the battery box in the Coromal but noticed they all worked on the day I didnt turn it on.

I first tried shifting the screen from extreme right of dash to in the centre.
Interestingly it made ALL wheels worse.
Can only think that the amount of metal between senders and receiver is fairly critical.

Maybe in the back bumper in the plastic part rather than under the metal floor will help. As I said most sensors go to sleep and require movement to wake them up.

Cheers Lets know what happens Several on here have Tyredogs.

Hi,
I have the 6 wheel tyredog set, as I use it when towing our camper trailer and at other times just switch it to the 4 wheel setting.
I have mounted my relay just under the rear bumper as it is protected by my towbar.
We have had it for around a year now and it is a great insurance policy.
I have found on occasion the issues you mentioned and also getting a communication fail between the main unit and relay.
Recently I swapped all the sensor batteries for new ones and changed out the relay and main display unit for high powered lithium ones (I use the same in our SPOT tracker) and Bingo no more issues at all.

Hope that helps

Ian

Thanks for the reply Ian

On the weekend I moved the relay up to the top of the rear window, and then hardwired the relay and the monitor.

I've had intermittent success. Some times all four sensors work (I haven't tried the ones on the van yet), at other times one or two of the sensors don't respond.

I'm starting to suspect the sensor batteries are dodgy. I'll get some new ones I think.

Have you taken the van for a drive yet Most units, as I have said require motion to start them up. My van is parked beside the garage and when I pull up beside it the sensors dont register as they are "asleep" They wont wake up till I move it.

You could spend forever trying to get them to work if you dont move the vehicles.

You may be surprised at the prices of Lithium batteries for them as the CR 1632's mine use were $15 each here.
I got 10 from USA for $18 and better quality ones as well.

Hi Graham

Having an issue with one of my sensor similar to jdbb , first thought was to change battery , but battery measured ok - changed anyway and made no difference -but point of this followup is that I just brought the batteries from nearset Battery place at $4.95 each which I thought was steep.

If I come up with an answer I will post, but best way to test is to take unit off the wheel , the action causes them to both wake up and then transmit a 0 psi signal which should cause an immediate 3 beep warning sequence.

Your hand/body acting as a aerial also causes a stronger radio signal to be sent
and even if they register this way , they may not when returned to wheel.

Solution here is to move the recieving aerial (assuming sender is not stuffed).
