Normally the blue wire which activates the elevtric trailer brakes ALWAYS goes to PIN 5

What sort of trailer and what sort of brakes do you have. It should have an installation diagram with it.

On a Tekonsha which has standard wiring Black is power whie is earth red comes from cold side of switch behind brake pedal and blue goes to PIN 5.

That is for a caravan's electric brakes.

On most modern cars with abs and cruise control it is best to connect the red or brake light wire to the brake light wire on the trailer connector, as connecting to the brake pedal switch can interfere with the operation of the cruise control, abs etc

IU have done it on a 2003 Patrol and a 2005 TD Cruiser with no ill effects.
If you get the correct wire it doesnt hurt anything.

It s long way to run it to the trailer plug.

You could pick the wire up in the loom but need a manual for that.

Hi
What model vehicle do you have, as some of the Fords can not be connected to brake light switch.
Cheers
