Hi,

As we travel we make notes in our camps 5 book. Additional things that are not already listed as pieces of information.

I have come accross a few other people that do the same and when we meet, in camping spots, I like to borrow they book to steal their notes. In this way get additional information of places, we plan to visit.

In this way we try to avoid the bad camping spots and get information that makes traveling easier. Things such as:

toilets- flushing or non flushing and we rate them 0 -10. Below 5 is go and find another one.

Source of water

solar recieving ability

telstra next g reception

road noise

amount of rubbish

get there early

I think this is a good idea and would like to see it become more common. We all seem to use Camps book. Appreciate everyone's thoughts

Hi Carl

I too make notes in my CAW. Sometimes directions are not correct, or other facts not quite right (eg big rig suitable when it is not). Next G reception is a listed item, and i found it fairly accurate and always got some reception for internet with external antenna when Camps 5 said so. Some places had reception that weren't noted in Camps 5. When we get home, i email Camps with any corrections where listings are not correct or incomplete. You're welcome to borrow my notes if we have the good fortune to meet. I also transcribed some notes from Camps 3 to Camps 5 when i upgraded. If i see a CAW listing when passing, i also note any variations or comment if it looks particularly good or bad.

Hi Carlsp
Great idea, also another way is to go onto the website and send them an email with any updates & attach a photo, that way all of us with the Free Camps books can benefit.

I have done this and they were very appreciative of it.

A good suggestion Curlyman. Our Camps 5 already has so many notes that we dread copying them out if Camps 6 or 7 ever becomes a necessity! It seems a really good idea to email the publishers with useful updates then everyone can benefit and we all don't have to try to decipher our old notes! Things are always changing - especially in terms of space available, toilet construction and servicing, rubbish collection and big rig access. Some obvious seeming good places have been omitted. The small independent 'budget' caravan parks trying hard to offer us a good deal also deserve a boost when we discover them! Thanks. Lynne

Yes, the CAW people do appreciate the feedback from us out in the field. They can't physically check every campsite each year, and things are constantly changing. In the back of the book they acknowledge those who have sent updates, and those who have sent photos. It is their business and they profit from it, but in giving them the feedback, we are helping them to help us.
