Hi there I am looking for a great camping site for me and my boys. I want to show them how great it is to
camp out without any of those computer games and TV around you all of the time. I want to show them what I used to do when I was there age in the good old days. So please help and drop me a line Thanks

Toomulla Beach 45Ks north of
Townsville,
free camp,
toilets, beach and a few sand flies. but a bit of Bushmans sorts that out. Make sure you get in around 9am for a spot though.

Rollingstone 55kms north of
Townsville. Free
campground max 48 hrs.
Toilets only, no showers (beautifull creek but), campfires ok. Just behind the Service station & Pub.
Enjoy

Specify your question -
free camping as in caravan parks that are free, or as in
bush camping?

Guessing that you want to take your kids out
bush camping & have a fire & all the old fashioned stuff. I would not recommend the beaches nor Rollingstone North of
Townsville. They are chocker block with
grey nomads & backpackers at the moment. They might be OK for wet season camping when the tourists all shoot through.
The national parks might be a bit better.
Crystal Creek might be OK. I haven't been there myself, but somebody will hopefully comment.
The lake out at Paluma is pretty good.
Fletcher Creek North of Charters Towers is OK. Go up Harveys Range Rd & turn South to Charters Towers & you can't miss it.
Give the this site a look

OK free as in bushcamping. OK
What Fatso said.
Plus you can go to
Big Bend on the Burdekin (between Fletcher Creek and Charters Towers)
Valley of the Lagoons is nice but it becomes a long-weekend as it takes 4 hours to get there.
Unfortunately a few good spots that was closer were closed off by the property owners, such as Running River.
Broadwater is not quite '
Free Camping' as it is in a
state forest (or national park) but it is quite nice and if you go outside of school holidays and long weekends you may have the place for yourself. It is just north and West of
Ingham
