Hi all, I have a 2001 Hilux D/C and only recently it has been making a clunking sound coming from the front R/H wheel area only when im at or close to full lock. im thinking its the cv joint. has anyone else had this problem.

Also the 4wd indicator on the dash is not lighting up when 4wd is engaged have checked all fuses and they are fine. Any other ideas that may cause the light not working apart from a blown bulb.

Thanks

I would take it to the doctor as soon as possible. Just imagine what would happen if the wheel falls off because something broke.

At least do not drive it until you know what is wrong.

Is it an SR5 or base SR ?? Reason I ask is if its SR5 as you would know 4wd is activated by a button on the high/low range stick. If its sr5 and its not lighting up on dash it could be the vacuum actuator on top of the diff not working. In SR model you obviously have to get out and lock the hubs in. Is it actually going into 4wd when you move the stick ?? Not sure how long you have had vehicle but my old lux you had to move a few feet before the light would come on indicating it was in 4wd. Is the vehicle new to you and you are just sticking in 4wd and expecting the light to come on straight away ?? If so them try movong a few feet with it locked in 4wd and light will come on. If this is all NOT new to you and you have had the vehicle for a while then if its an SR my bet the lights just blown, if its SR5 it could be actuator or bulb. Regards Steve M
