Has anyone been down the Central Arnhem Road recently? I spoke to the Northern Land Counil about permits and they said we can take our off road camper trailer, however it might be tricky crossing the Goyder River as there is a big wash out in the middle. If any one has been down this road recently I would appreciate a road report so we can decide if we should do it or not? Thanks!

We left Gove 3 weeks ago after living there for 3.5 years...
If you stick to the downstream side of the crossing, it will be less than 600mm depth at the deepest point. You will have no trouble at all towing an off road camper trailer across the Goyder.

If you're after
bush camping alongside pristine clear streams and having the place to yourself, then you'll love the area. There are also coastal areas like
Cape Arnhem that you can visit if you prefer being near the sea but it is blowy during the dry season.
You'll need a Dhimurru general permit to access any of the recreational areas and to visit some of the nicer spots, a Dhimurru special permit is required.
Hope this helps,
Chris
