What is the likelihood of this gizmo burning out itself or your cigarette lighter wiring? How can something this size start a "4 - 6 - 8 cyl petrol OR diesel motor" with a flat battery?

Sounds too good to be true to me.

We have a rechargable jump starter, and it will not start the small trucks if dead flat.

it does not actually start your car so high current is not drawn from the device.

It has enough charge to get enough charge into your own battery (assuming it has just gone flat rather than failed) and it your own battery that is used to start the car.

I do not have one but by all reports it does work - assuming the car battery is not dead.

Thats got it Garry - some time ago we demonstrated this using a pack of AA batteries - but these days we carry a 10AH lithium battery which is not much bigger and can kick out 200amps - it almost starts the car itself - but in reality it still takes under a minute .
Its advantage is that it can cope with a battery with a partly stuffed cell as well.

Can try John , but expect to be away today , its a black box made up of 4 special cells commercially for electric bikes.

The Cells known as 38120 's have a chemistry such that 4 match the voltage of a car battery whereas other Lithium cells are higher and not directly compatiable - you could just get cells from china and package them yourself
but this company puts the whole thing to-gether with a mains charger for $165 designed to power electric bikes, and to drive the starter motor of motorbikes -( I just cut leads and put Anderson plugs on battery pack)
