There was a thread a while back about cryovacing food. Fond this little gem while out and about today. Uses a 240v adapter (ie runs off DC) so should be good for taking with you on the road. Uses re-usable bags too.

The idea of "resealable" bags may not be a benefit on the road, as they could cause contamination to the next product to be stored in them, just a thought.

I use a similar product - the Snunbeam Foodsaver Vac420. It runs fine off a 150W inverter (although it works much better when the inverter is plugged into a power socket connected directly to the battery by alligator clips.

We use it to pack meat and perishables when touring. Easy to vacuum pack it in the car park, and stick it straight into the Engel.

Not sure if I would reuse the bags either... but the vacuum bags are fairly cheap anyway. Might do if I gave them a good wash...

Can't remember the full details of the Vac420 but I seem to remember that they draw 300 watts....which, if I am right, is overloading that inverter. I run mine off a 500 watt inverter and it runs like a dream.

Checked the book prior to purchase, and just double checked - 240V 50Hz 105W. Not overloading a 150W inverter :-)

You had me worried there for a second, because it would be easy enough to misread a power rating. In any case, a larger inverter is on the cards, probably for our trip to Carrawine Gorge/Skull Springs/Karijini next year. 150W has seen us through this far...

Thanks for your input, Patrol22! Worth the double check for safety's sake.

Just rechecked mine as well and you're right 105 watt it is.....must have something else in the kit that runs 300 watts and I'm suspecting that it is the 15 inch LCD TV now I come to think of it.

I would never cook anything in plastic....we already surround otherselves with far too much plastic that's most likely causing us all sorts of health problems, let alone environmental problems. Imagine the chemical leaching from plastic to food when heated.....

We are surrounded by all manner of chemicals. After years of working in darkrooms and being on of the guys who was inside the toxic F111 fuel tanks I doubt a little bit of plastic will make any difference to my health.

Our "home" Vacuum Preservation System draws 110 watts so I would have no hesitation of running it off the 300 watt inverter I carry in the vehicle.

As we are seldom out for more than a couple of weeks at a time, we have no need to take it with us, as the quantity of food to be sealed leads to preparation at home before heading out.
