Hi all,
Hubby and I are looking at heading to the Cape next year and I'm just after some general info.. When would be the best time to go? We are looking at going with another 3 cars is that too many or not enough? How long would you take to get up and back from
Cooktown? We're looking at going one way on the Old Telegraph Track and back the other way on the by-pass roads.. What are the highlights and what
places would anyone recommend we
camp? Any other info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys
Nic

Nic 2 weeks is a reasonable time from
Cooktown return for alook at the key attractions. It can be done in 7 days. To cover the whole Cape including the many secluded sites towards the coast allow up to 4 weeks. 4 cars will be a good size group but really these days so many people are up there you could do it on your own without concern. If the wet doesn't last too long mid May is the best time to go before the crowds arrive but often the creeks can still be up. Most travel between June & September but the dust and corrogations can be horrendous as the season progress's.
The best planning tool is to buy Ron Moons Adventurers Guide to the Cape. It has all the campsites, facilities, attractions, historical sites, etc including detailed maps.

I second Ron Moon's book. Best travel book for Cape. It will answer 99% of your questions
