G`day,
There is a very long story re our "5 desert trip" that I will write as a blog later, but briefly this is why.
We were on the final leg of our 9300 klm + trip across the Anne Beadell to the National Gathering and return via the Canning SR, the Garry
Junction Rd,
Alice Springs to Finke and Mt Dare, The French & QAA lines across the very wet Simpson, the
Birdsville Trk.
It was left at Mungarannie because of a stuffed Alternator, no alternator = no charge, no charge = no battery, no battery = no computer (electronics) , no computer = NO GO.
It (the alternator ) got a gut full of sand and mud on the
Simpson Desert that didn`t agree with it. Having it mounted low down near the RH front wheel is not one of MR Toyota`s better design ideas, especially after the plastic inner of the mudguard had broken away allowed little ,or no protection for the Alternator.
Anyway it was picked up by truck last Sunday and is ( last I heard) still on the truck which is bogged somewhere towards Innaminka.
Oh the Joys of travelling this great but vast country.
Watch this space.
Regards,
Scrubby.

Hi Scrubby
Will look forward to the whole story , the mud has certainly been heavy for many over the last weeks , the 2 Toyota's I was with had rear brake pads damaged by it - but we were able to pickup some new pads - only this weekend I got most of the mud of our alternator and its mounted higher , but there is still an ingrained layer you can't remove.
There just seemed so much mud and mixed with so much wet sand over such a long time this season. Maybe the snow this coming weekend will clean things up if I find enough.

Cheers,
I was surprised when i saw it on the way
home.
Not a great sounding alternator setup is it.

Hi Scrubby
You were lucky to get out when you did, as when I was speaking with the Tourist Office in
Birdsville late last week, she said that they have had another 2-3 inches last week, on top of the rain when you went through. We have postponed the Simpson crossing until we have travelled the Anne Beadell instead, giving it hopefully a few good weeks to dry the tracks out a little.
Looking forward to your Blog.
Cheers
Stephen

Yeah so true,
So many things in this world are heartbreaking and this is definately one of them.
You would expect to point most 4x4's through a general quagmire and have a relatively safe experience.
Sad that one of our main large 4x4's has hiccups.
It s a real pain when people which are packed to the hilt ahave to find extra space for another person and their goods after a
breakdown.
