MAVERICK(WA)
My HEMA Navigator reached its first birthday last month and waited for another 2 weeks to 'screen freeze' and give up on all attempts to get going again. This first happened back in Nov2009 but I put it down to the heat - it was 45deg outside though I had a cover over the unit to stop direct sunlight. It did it again a couple of times over the past 6mths but eventually sorted itself out after resets and assistance from geeky friends. A phone call to HEMA when it did its last freeze a couple of weeks ago - some questions and the old was returned and a new HEMA 5 received last Saturday. Definitely no complaints with that sort of service and if that is indicitive of their treatment of customers then there can be no complaints. I guess I now need to wait and see if this problem has been cured with the new 5 model. rgds.

Hi Maverick
I've had equally excellent service from HEMA. I bought a new HEMA 5 just a few days before we left on our April/May trip this year. Didn't really assess it properly in those couple of days at home but soon found, once on the road, that it didn't charge. Eventually we reached
Esperance and my first chance to stay put for a couple of days and contact HEMA. They were fabulous. They sent a replacement to me care of the
Esperance Post Office. The parcel included a return bag, so without any effort I returned my dodgy one.
I plugged in the new one and it was as perfect as I hoped.

Hema replaced my defective 4.3 with a 5" model earlier this year.
It has just survived the
Canning Stock Route (corrugations) and the Simpson (
water and mud) and has been flawless.

Good observation :)
By the time I had got bogged three times nothing had missed the mud. There was mud on the steering wheel, CB and Hema and practically everything else.
I did stop short of drowning it though!
Seriously though, the 4.3" model was less than reliable. I have not come across any problems with the 5" but I have yet to use it in full summer heat.

No worries - just messing around. Figured you were commentling more on your great trip than specifically on the unit ...anyway bit of dirt on the outside wont hurt it. Would not get it too wet though.
I've got one but cant get it back off my mate! It has performed faultlessy to date (so he says:). Have you found any 5" screen protectors? I have to cut one up into 2 bits to get the right size.
Cheers

Screen protectors? No I have not tried them or made any enquiries re them.
Now talking about the screen. I do find it a bit easy to get glared out. More so than the 4.3 model. I find during the day I move the unit mount a bit to try and keep the sun off it.
I was wondering if the unit has a protective film for the screen already, like some lcd devices come with. I have not been game to try to find out.
