Hi we are about to go back to Broome, this time with the grandkids to show them some of the places we liked so much. Wont have time to do the Gibb River again but are thinking of comming back from one arm point through Derby, Windjana Gorge, Tunnel Creek and driving from there to Fitzroy crossing. Can anyone tell me what this last stretch of road is like? Just trying to gauge wether it will be similar to the road into Windjana a few months ago and work out the travel time.
Thanks
Phil and Sue

Hi Phil and Sue,

When we did this stretch of road in '08 it was as you suggest, similar to the road into Windjana. There were a few patches of corrugations but nothing serious. There are lots of boabs along there too, as well as some great bush campsites where the road passes through the Oscar Range. We camped there twice, on the second occasion we found a bower bird's bower very close to our camp.

Cheers,

Val.

Hi Phil, Sue:
We did this from Fitzroy Crossing to Tunnel Creek & Winjana and back in June, in a 2wd VW camper (Transporter). Had to slow down on a couple of rough patches, otherwise could travel at reasonable speed over the corrugations. One other 2wd car, a Falcon, did this at the same time - neither of us had any problems.
Cheers,
Jim

G'day Did the in Gibb July and came in from Fitzroy Crossing, The road was in good condition then, the worst were the corrugations fron Windjana to the Gibb Rd, but still nothing like the Kalumburu rd.
Cheers

Thanks everyone, I dont know why but I had got the impression from somewhere that it wasnt a great road. However, as long as its not like the road into Drysdale at the end of June 10 I'll be thrilled. Great to hear a vw transporter has been there. I have one as my vehicle of choice at home when the toyota has time out till the next trip!.........which starts soon! yea

Phil,

Did it 3 weeks ago.
No dramas.
Didn't even notice the corrugations in comparison to the CSR. ;)

Hi Phil and Sue,
did it 4 days ago. A bit corrugated from the GRR to Windjana Gorge but after that just patches of corrugations. Tunnel Creek to the highway was ok with some sections of stones to be wary of but a pretty good run. Saw 2wd campers in their and didn't see anyone having any troubles. Have a good trip.
