Hey all,
Well finally picked up our new van, almost finished packing house ,fitted out 4x4 and kids and wife finish school and work next week ready for the big trip around this beautiful paddock of ours. My question is this?
I have planned to do the inevitable and travel anti-clockwise from
Melbourne across to S.A then W.A (taking time) and up the westcoast etc.
Because I have travelled up the East Coast already 3 times I chose to head this way and finish possibly on the east coast.I am wondering is it better to head from
Port Augusta straight over the Eyre OR is it better to maybe head north and take in
William Creek,
Oodnadatta,Cooper Pedy,Uluru and then head across to
Esperance at this time of the year or should I stick to my original plan of heading from P/
Augusta over the nullabor to
Esperance.
I would like some feedback from experienced travellers as which way would better suit this time of year.
Thanx all.
Craig,Lexi and boys.

isnt that"clockwise" ???
We have had a band of rain go accross here (Nth QLD) and i would say the the
wildflowers will be out over WA now so go that way....
I always say just go and enjoy, dont make to hard set plans, you have a van so can stop where ever and take it all in, we are very lucky to have a big back yard that is awsome where ever you you are or go so have fun guys...

Hi Craig
New Van!
Personally I would go straight accross and save Cooper Pedy etc for another trip. That way you can sort out any problems that quite often show up early.
Have a good trip.
Tony

Morning Craig,
Weather improve? Technically end of August. The weather is crazy over here at present we are having very cold nights and reasonably warm days.
Haven't had a decent rain for months and the farmers are really worried.

hi clbl068
we had 28 mm rain last night in bunbury and a another 19 this afternoon/evening so quite wet now
as for the wind this month and several times last month we have had cold easterly winds
but i would'nt worry too much about trying to beat the wind i and as others have found together with murphy's law chucked in for good measure
it's almost impossible to correctly predict which way the wind on the nullarbour is going to blow on any given day
i have crossed it 7 times and it's been different each time and with some sections blows from way and another quarter am/pm if you havent got a head wind it will be a tail or sidewind one way or other australia is a bl--dy big place and the wind is always blowing to and fro somewhere????????
i defy any one to give an accurate prediction
i dont think it will bother the LC200 too much
just go and enjoy the experience the weather is getting better in respect to day temps from now on there will be the odd cold morning through spring but the day temps are nice
cheers have a good trip and let your wind blow free

Craig,
We were going the same way but something stopped us and we went anticlockwise. the best move we ever made. The prevailing wind direction is east to west in the north and west to east in the south. You will be travelling through the end of winter and into spring. This will having you driving into the wind most of the way. This can add very significantly to fuel cost.
What was not mentioned was type of caravan and two vehicle. Pop top will not be as bad if this is what you have. New van so take 6 rolls of duck tape and some silicone. Not being critical of your van but these 2 things are very handy and sometimes they sell out in small towns.
You will love the trip

Hey carlsp,
see what your saying although having done east coast numerous times
I`m worried we`ll find somewhere great and not get over to W.A.
By the way our tow vehicle is a 200 series t/d cruiser and the van is a 25`Ian Grants Tourer.
Cheers
