Has anyone been out to the lakes recently, just wondering about the lakes
water level, I had heard that
water was flowing into the lakes. We are thinking of including the lakes into our trip planning for a departure date of later next week.

We were out there in the July Holidays and it was wonderful plenty of
water, went paddling in the canoe. We were camped on the
water front in the

Barbara,
Where did you
Free camp, and where did you turn off the main road to get there. Would like to stop over night on our next trip.

There are 4 main lakes out there and 2 of them are 100% full, one is 76% and
Menindee Lake itself is 24%.
There is heaps of
water and the best
camp sites you'll find anywhere.

And the best thing is the current minor floods in the castlereagh and Namoi will find its way down the darling.

Gday...
We were there two weeks ago ... stayed at the
Menindee Lakes Van
Park right on the
lake - basic facilities but good value. $20/night which was as cheap as
camping in the Kinchega Nat Pk.
Lake Menindee was 90% full when we were there they said and it looked great.
Kinchega Nat Pk has many camps along the
Darling River - seculed spots in amongst the river red gums - great atmosphere. $7 per day entry fee and $5 per person to
camp - $17/day.
Most of the main roads in Kinchega were open but recent rains have effected roads. The lower Lakes Road has been closed for many months due to sand across the road they have yet to remedy.
There has been more recent rain in this NW NSW area so roads may still be closed - or if open - suffering the damage of 4x4s driving through em when they were still too wet .... rutted and chopped up.
Having said all that - the area was great. Everything is green and lush and the weather has been mainly sunny although chilly winds and mornings.
Cheers
Julie &
John

Was there in July this year.
The
campground on
Lake Cawndilla in Kinchega NP is a top spot. The roads in the
park can be quite corrugated. One of the roads to Cawndilla was shut due to flooding - we had to backtrack around another way.
