Braziers are a nono.
Ozpigs are ok with heat beads

Also have a look at the qld gov epa web site which is mentioned in the link above.

Hi Dean,

Braziers are not permitted, Oz pig or similar are allowed only using heat beads.

Are fires permitted?
Open campfires are only permitted in the fire rings provided at Waddy Point and Dundubara campgrounds. Campers wishing to use these fire rings must supply their own clean, untreated, milled timber for firewood.

Fully self-contained heating and cooking appliances may be used at all campgrounds (unless a Total Fire Ban is in place). They must be off the ground (recommended minimum height is 200 mm). These appliances must use only manufactured fuel such as heat beads. Bush timber or timber off cuts must not be used. Appliances that are not fully self-contained, such as braziers, are not permitted. All appliances, materials and fuels (e.g. heat beads) must be removed from the national park on departure.

Cheers,
John

With all the drama about what you can and can't burn, I wouldn't be bothered going there again. Whats a camp site without the camp fire?...useless.
Typical npsw drival next they'll close it down to 4dwing In 1988 these restrictions didn't exist.
That's my Friday winge

Perhaps if some of the pre 1988 campers didn't tear the bush down, ringbark trees & leave scorchmarks at all the campgrounds then they wouldn't have needed to bring the fire restrictions in? Another view pehaps is the typical NPWS are protecting the island from redneck campers who simply don't care. Either way if you want a fire they have allocated areas for the people who do. Heading there in 6 weeks so will check out if it's still worth bothering ;-)
Cheers Craig.......

To say nothing of the horrendous burns that were caused by people covering up fires with sand and leaving them.

Many people including children walked onto them and fell into the ash pits causing really severe burns.

A few lazy inconsiderate people wreck it for the rest but better to be safe than scared for life.
