If you had to pay more for an optional wind deflector, would you? Do they do a decent job, or just look pretty? Do they reduce your fuel consumption, or reduce wind noise? We need to get a rack before heading to Canning next year, so am curious as to their effectiveness.

My Rhino is sloped at the front anyway so not required. Probably need to pay attention to how you pack it. Try to put something curved at the front, not a dirty great flat sided box..
I never notice any wind noise from ours.

Defintely worth while and definitely reduce fuel sufficiently to be cost effctive, as
well as reducing wind noise. It's important to line them up correctly. The wind coming up your windscreen should continue in as near as possible a line up the wind deflector. If in doubt, have the deflector slightly behind the windscreen flow, not in front.

I've put one on my front solar panel, been there since 1996.
The alloy was new, now it looks 'damaged' - so it must be doing some good.

I have an ARB roofrack on my HZJ105. I coiuldn't get a wind deflector at the time of purchase of the roofrack, so I had to travel to my next destination with out one.
On arrival at my next destination ( a major centre), a wind deflector to suit the roofrack was sourced and fitted. The difference was huge; no wind noise at all with the deflector fitted. I guess it has cut down some fuel usage as
well, but didn't monitor it at the time.
Recommend definately getting a wind deflector with the roofrack. (make sure that it suits the rack)

Well worth it - Maybe try and make it with a solar Panel as suggested above and as we did
Cheers Tony

Thanks again guys. Did a bit of running around today looking at options. Found it interesting, though not surprising, that some brands come complete with a wind deflector, for others it's an optional extra.

I made my own and its not that hard. I reckon it works although have not done any fuel useage Image Could Not Be Found tests. Michael.
