I have been there in September and it was starting to get warm. Travel after September is likely to be hot and unpleasant.

I was out that way late Sept 2009 and it was getting a bit warm by then.
October - November can be quite hot and no fun when you consider that the hot winds pick up by then too.
The season is normally over two weeks after the races in
Birdsville in the first weekend of Sept. After that it is a lottery as to how good the weather is going to be.
