hi all, new to the site but just brought an 07 D40 navara 6 wheeler. It has a DP chip gas injection and a bunch of other gear.
Just wowndering if anyone can help me out as it seems my long range tank has thrown out my fuel guage, is there a way to readjust it myself? Also what tyres would people suggest putting on it, im thinking BF muddies but any suggestions welcome.

Is it 6x6 or just 4x6? There is always a discrepancy with the new tanks. Cheapest solution is to crawl under and find the manufacturers plaque/sticker on the tank and give them a ring. If it's a D40 the odds are it will be an LRA (Long Range Automotive of Lilydale) tank who seem to do the bulk of the Navara tanks.

What you intend doing with the ute will inform your decision on tyres. If you are intending doing a bit of outback travel on dusty roads then the BFG's or Coopers would be right for you but when you start talking 6 tyres, it's expensive. If you're running around the bitumen the majority of the time with a bit of dirt here and there, you may want to consider some cheaper options that will still suit your needs. (Ironman Electra LT66 A/T or M/T - Yes they're made by Goodyear in China but just over half the price of BFGS and a good general tyre. A lot are being used up around Broome and Hedland by mining and survey outfits with no problems). Asking about tyres on the site usually opens a tin of worms so be prepared. Think about what your needs are and how deep the purse is!

Hope this helps.

Cheers Mick

P.S. If you've got really deep pockets and want as bullet proof tyre as you can get, have a look at the Toyo Open Country M/T's.

Have you got the airbags or coil springs on the third axle, Or the leaf set up.
I had the coil/airbag set up on mine and when on the black stuff I would raise the back axle with a winch to save on rear tyres. When working it on six wheels all the time I would go through two sets of tyres on the third axle twice a year.

So can get expensive.

cheers

Shane.

Hi Mick

Too bloody right about the can of worms when talking tyres on here! I asked opinions on the Cooper Zeon a while back.... got belted from ear to ear by BF Goodrich enthusiasts and others, a bit of support from Cooper followers.

Funny, never got an opinion on the Zeon's. Bought them anyway.

Cheers, Dave

If its a Briggs 6 wheeler (6 x 4) as its a 60% on drive & 40% on trailing axle the rear wheels will give about twice the klms then the others & as you will find the edges of the rear tyres get worn due to dragging them around corners you may find it better to go for tyre with a rounder shoulder. I've owned 6 wheelers (several) for about 18 years now, I still stick with BFG (not muds) but i no longer rotate the rear once they have worn the edges. I get less tyre squeal. Remember that when the 6 wheeler is empty the weight of the vehicle is over 6 wheels & with muddies fitted it will be a bastard in the wet on the bitumen

okay thanks first of all to all those who have offered advice.
Its a 6x4 with airbags under the rear 4 tyres with leaf suspension also, ive been running it on bituman lately with around 20psi in the rear drive airbags and virtually nothing in the lazy axel bags.

ill be looking under the tank today to check for a plaque, so ill update that one later one, were heading up to Lightning ridge next weekend so we'll see how we go with the wrangler tyres later are on there.

Thanks again, if theres any other advice id be greatful.
