Hi guys,

can see there is quite a bit of talk about in regards to the road conditions around the simpson!!

does anyone know the conditions of the road from Windorah to Birdsville along the developmental road and also from birdsville to Boulia??

Is anyone else heading to the birdsville races this year.

Thanks

This report is 6 weeks old but I doubt things have changed much.

We went to see the green interior and Birdsville our final point. We came back to the coast the other way BV to Windora.

Think of the DV road in 2 sections BV to Bethoota small white dirt highly compacted better than some coastal highways except for the dust. Bethoota to Windora much mor knobbly dirt and many shredded tyres on the side of the road but their age unknown.

Tips. Windora an aged but adequate caravan park charging only $10pn powered. Great overnight free stop or just a picturesque photo stop at Dions Lookkout about 20km east of Bethoota. The Bethoota pub was recently closed following death of publican.

The road to Big Red from BV was cut by a lake 500m wide and 6km long right in front of Little Red but it can be skirted turn left t at the Coca Cola m/c (seriously).

BV was doing it tough for visitors when we were there because the road from the south had been cut by the Cooper and the punt would not bring trailers or caravans across.

Enjoy the races. We did a pedestrian lap of the course and found my horse backed 4 years ago still trying to find the winning post !
