Is the dirt road from Wilcannia to Menindee suitable for towing a caravan as we would like to have a look at the lakes.

Thanks, Tony

Yep, just take your time. I towed a Tvan down there a month ago, just check on the rain because they may close the roads. We were on the western side then as the eastern side was closed.

yes - we also towed a camper trailer down the western side about a month ago, before the latest rains, but it posed no problems whatsoever - in fact the road was so good we were able to sit close to the speed limit

I cant help you there but was just wondering: What car, what size caravan. Because TVan and campertrailer, isn't that a different story? I mean, in this case Geoff said how fast he could go which gave a pretty good impression. But I have seen video's about TVans going where no caravan could ever go or come out in one piece.

Hi Willem269, We have a 100 series T/D cruiser and the van is a Sunland Longreach single axle with independant suspension 17' 6" long.

Cheers, Tony

This link will give you the latest status on the roads in the local area; http://www.centraldarling.nsw.gov.au/roads/1091.html

We did the east side in early July. We had a Bushtracker caravan in the convoy. Aside from one small spot that was quite muddy from recent rains, the road was excellent. We took the east road as it was recommended as more scenic than the west. I understand that the west road is the more direct and more travelled route.

We camped at Lake Cawndilla in Kinchega NP. Wonderful spot and doable in a caravan although the campground is a little tight thanks to the NPWS configuation of treated pine logs (if you know what I mean).

Cheers.

It's all subject to the weather of course.

We went through in May towing our Bushtracker. It was dry so no problems.

We camped at the lakes.

We were heading to Bourke via Wilcannia and camped at Tilpa Weir

Great drive, but check road conditions first.

I'm glad I ain't too scared to be lazy
