I took a Wright Air flight from Marree in July. Booked at the General Store $330 for +2hours along the Birdsville Tk, out along the Cooper ferry crossing to Lake Eyre, then south across Lake Eyre South to Marree. Worth every cent. The other mob (don't know the name) can be booked from the pub - an extra $20? for similar. There are shorter flights available for reduced cost, make inquiries at the store. Due to weather, etc I booked for the following day and got the flight of my choice.

We've just come back from the area and we asked quite a few fellow travellers before we decided where to take the flight from.
Most people that took a flight from Marree were generally unhappy with the flight from there. Several reckoned that it wasn't worth it as they were shortchanged on the actual flight time and spent a greater period of time getting to and from the lake.
The best flights were from either William Creek or Birdsville, the WC ones only have a short flight till you are over the lake which is after all what you are paying to see.
Birdsville flights have the added advantage of seeing the Diamantina and Eyre creek plus the Simpson Desert inundations as well.
We took the 2 hour flight from WC and saw heaps, most of the lake, Belt Bay, Jackboot Bay, Madigan gulf, the Cooper, Warburton, Warburton groove, Macumba and The Neales where the each flow into the lake.

Just building on what Ozhumvee has said, we did the Wrightair flight from William Creek on Tuesday last week. $230 per person for the 1 hour flight and it was well worth it. Had heard the same things about the Marree flights so opted for William Creek instead.

Cheers Mick

We did a flight last September from Maree from the pub.
It took about 120 mins ? We flew out to the south part of the lake and there was water, and then tracked north, came back over the Oonadatta track looking for camels, then over the Maree man.
It was worth it from our perspective as we saw the lake with water in it and got to see islands, shallowness of the water, etc.
It really depends how much you want to see- if you want the Simpson desert part, then not sure you get that from Maree.
It also depends on the weather on the day as to what you can see etc.
We were lucky as we go in just before the 2nd dust storm and had perfect flying weather which is good when you are in a small space!
I think we were quoted $700 for 4 of us including 2 kids so it was worth it for us.
We didnt book as we waited to see what the weather did. However, you may get tour groups and scholol holidays crowds in Sepetmeber.
