Water Tank Recommendation...What do you use ????

Just wondering if anyone knows what is a good quality water tank around the 80ltrs + for my camper trailer. Needs to be strong (still fitting a bash plate over it) and not have to bi carb it out all the time to get rid of the plastic taste.
Would prefer a brand that can be purchased in Perth or surrounding areas.
Your input would be greatly appreciated...

Cheers
Simon.

Simon,

I have used plastick jerry cans for 14 years and never had a problem. I can see the convenience of having a tank mounted under your trailer but their are risks.

If I get a hole in one of my jerry cans I only lose the water in that can. A few years ago an Exploroz member got into a bit of trouble when he holed his water tank while travelling the Anne Beddel Highway. As it was the loss of water forced him to cut short his trip and head for civilisation but it could have been a lot worse. Also, if I am doing a short trip then I need only take 1 or 2 cans and when I do day trips away from the camper it is easy to drop a jerry into the back of the car so I have ample water for my day trip.

To get the water from the jerry cans I use a super siphon. It holds the water in the hose and all I have to do is drop the end below the water level to re-commence the flow. They are also easy to refill even if I can't get the camper up to the water supply.

Finally I don't have a problem with using the water left in the jerrys when I get home to water the garden. I screw the caps on only loosely so they can breathe in storage and have never had a problem with the water tasting bad.

My 2c but it has been working for a long time.

Hi Simon,

I have a 'Camel 65L' water tank installed under my C/T, it has proven to be a very strong and reliable tank. When it was new I had to clean & flush it out a few times to get rid of the plastic taste but after that all I do now when filling is add about half a cap of vanilla essence with the water and all is good. From memory CAMEC on Welshpool Rd sell them.

Hope this helps,

I got a 80l water bladder that's on the floor behind the drivers seat and find it very good.

Always make sure you use food grade hoses otherwise you will get that garden hose taste.

I notice that you do not want plastic taste.

If you are considering a stainless tank be careful, as I have met several people with new Camp'o'matics and Kimberley Kampers where the stainless tank has cracked adjacent to the welds as the tank flexes and work hardens from the water sloshing inside.

I have a 50 litre plastic tank under my old 97 Camp'o'matic. these are a standard caravan fitment and only cost about $90 on line. Mine wore through after 13 years of off road work, which I think is a great performance.
All in all I think the plastic tanks are the most practical.
For different shapes and sizes just look in on of the on line caravan parts sites. i used Caravans Plus in Canberra,

I go with Duncs above, I carry 20L plastic containers. 2 mounted on the side of the C/t & a couple of spares wherever. I leave home with fresh tank water for
a decent cup of tea in one & only refill when empty. I see no use in lumping all
that weight around when washing & cooking water is freely available in most places. We carry sufficient drinking water to suit the conditions. The number of posts re bad taste ,pump issues, & damage occurring to permanent tanks ensures
that I wont be tempted to go that way. I always know how much water I have,
& can adjust the amount to suit the usage.......oldbaz

Cheers for the info fellas....
No I wont be going for a stainless tank as I have heard of them cracking also.
Putting a plastic or poly tank under trailer just wasnt sure what was a good brand.....I will be carrying a couple of jerries of water just as back up as I dont want to get caught with no water at all, if something happens to the tank.
There will usually be 4 of us on the trips so space is a big problem for me with the jerries.....i will just have to see how it works out with the way I want to go and take it from there.
Cheers
Simon.
