Hi all, just a up date on post 7964. I have now noticed that I can transmit & the T.X. modulator light does change its brightness when doing so. But I can only do this on the channels programmed in the unit i.e. RFDS, school of the air & OTC channels from 20-84 & 120-145, not user programmable channels from 84-119 & 146-255. I have entered the VKS737 freq on channels 150,148,147,146 & others, but still can't transmit. Can any body help?

Carazy you need to find a dealer to program the unit for you. VKS737 will want you to join to use their channels. If you find someone who will tell you how to program TX frequencies please tell me how it is done as I have a SB250RC as well.

Carazy and Darryn, if you email me direct (tom@lovi.net) I will send you a .pdf file on how to program both your RX and TX frequencies. I have to find my repair manual (later tonight) but I will also tell you how to program channels 1-9. I have programmed channels 1-5 to align to 1-5 VKS channels.

These and similar transceivers are deliberately dealer-programmable for TX (RX is ok for the user to program), as there would be chaos on the spectrum if every user was able to program their unit to transmit on whatever frequency they like. And legit users of other channels pay enormous bucks to the ACA for the rights to use that channel - they get a bit stressed-out when some yob comes up and chats (even abuses them) on their channel.
We had enough trouble in the 70's, when CBers were modifying their 27MHz CBs to other channels outside the band and interfering with other legitimate services.
Most people are responsible, but it only takes one dik-hed to spoil it for others.
Befriend a dealer.
