hi All,
There is road-reports and then there is road-experiences...
At this time, first or second hand, for those that have traveled in the present, recent or past, does it look likely that a 4x2 wagon and a full combination of skill, experience, practice and preparation would make
Birdsville from Cunumulla or
Blackall? ex-
Brisbane
I believe the bus's run down from Mt Isa and the outback travellers run up from the south..but in from the east, as long as there were no flooded sections, may be ok for a 4x2..
I did cameron corners from
brisbane to
adelaide a few years ago.. i felt a 4x2 could have handled
well with a full combination of skill, experience, practice, and preparation....
also, at this time, a 4x2 with a 4x4 running support?

They are just dirt roads. As long as the tyres are ok then its not a prob. Most of those tracks are fine for 4x2 - until it rains.

The dirt section from
Windorah to
Birdsville is the best stretch of dirt road we faced in a 15000 km trek which finished last week. We drove that section on Monday. I would happily drive my wife's Camry to
Birdsville on it.

Thing is that even without any rain
Windorah to
Birdsville can and WILL change over the next few weeks due to the amount of traffic before / during and after the races.

Lovely photo , thing is it has RAINED since the photo was taken ,and city terrorists who dont know or more than likely dont care will have ripped up the road by not waiting a day or two for the road to dry out a bit , what seems like a fun trip in the mud is a pain in the behind for the locals.
