EOTrackMe iPhone Software (New Release)

For those of you using the iPhone app called uTrackMe to interface with EOTrackMe I have some really great news. The developer of the application has taken all my recommendations on board and has a new release about to be published. This new release will solve all our persistent (store & forward) issues and will also allow full tracking in the background. So no more having to start and stop the app and loosing your data when you close the app - all data can be stored in a file and transferred when the server connection is available. I am hoping that the GPS location services for the camera app work when the uTrackMe is in the background and will test this is due course as this will really make using the iPhone tracking and the places/bogs email updates functions simple.

I have a pre release version on my iPhone at the moment and am working on the server software to ensure it is fully supported when released later this week. It is a great update and will make the iPhone one of the best phone based tracking units available.

I will provide more updates in the next few days.

Sounds good david.

Does the issue with Internet Explorer still exist where it could only display a finite amount of track info?

I'm glad I ain't too scared to be lazy

Toonfish,
You have uploaded a position tonight however it was recorded inside your geofence and as such is not shown on the map. Your default geofence is a radius 2km around your home address. if you want to test the system out from home set the radius of your home geofence to 0km and the start the program and you wait about 1 min and then you will be able to see yourself at home on the map.

When happy clear the track and then set the radius back to a larger number thus providing a secure area around your home so that people do not know where you live and you should be up and running when you drive outside of the geofence.

GB,
Nah the IE thing is a browser and data size problem. I am going to do something else to get around this based on how far in your zoom. So when you zoom in the system will deliver more data thus aligning the track better. Once you save the track to a User Route (new feature being worked on). It will show the full accuracy line as it will be shown in a different manner - more like treknotes are shown, this will get past the issue completly when you save the live track to a user route.

How much data does this application use as I have only $10 worth a month which is under 500mb.
Am interested in using it in the future but not if it is data intensive.

Thanks

Graham,
The answer to this is documented in the iPhone/uTrackMe information page on the EOTrackMe index page it states:

** Approximate data usage each packet is not huge however if you travel 200km with a 5m "Distance Filter" you will be sending 40,000 position reports each being around 700bytes totalling approx 28Mb, if this is reduced to 50m you would be sending in 2.8Mb and at 500m only 280Kb. So the 200-250m number is the most suitable as it will produce a good mapping result and keep the data usage at reasonable level.

So in short you determine how much data you are going to send by the settings you configure in the system. I travelled for 2 weeks using 50m and did not exceed 100MB.
