In Namibia it is called "Bushman TV" and it is amazing that the reception both here in Oz and in Africa is so good that you are right.....the brain is soothed, problems melt away and all is right in the world. Maybe more watching that "TV" would be better for a lot of people.

Hi Axle
let me see, 5 stars or 5 million stars. I'll take the 5 million, and it's so much cheaper. The fire is great, get the imagination going for the kids with the pictures they can get out of the flames.
Cheers

Marc, The best pictures I find are in the coals not the flames and they last longer. I've seen crocs, dragons, faces, boats and lots of other things.
I agree the best TV ever.

Next time I will get the fire down to coals and get the grandkids telling me what they see, should get them dozing off quickly enough.

Myself, having seen so many campfires, i now sit with my side to it. Not sure why, just sick of staring into the fire. I prefer to watch the sky and the water/land. Still enjoy it every now and then but not always.

Just reading this thread and thinking of it all is relaxing me. Looking forward to tomorrow night when we will be
camping out there as
well. The house sitter is organized, the car is all packed, come 5am we are on our way to
Googs Track,
Coober Pedy,
Painted Desert,
Oodnadatta,
Dalhousie Springs, Simpson to the
Birdsville Races, then not sure, depends what roads are open, the friends we are going with would like to go to
Innamincka so may be there but will eventually head down the
Birdsville track to the ferry, we'll see. Arh
well it's going to be hard but someone has to do it.LOL
Cheers

Hi Brian.
Sorry to hear that. If you suffer from it. It isn't a pleasant ailment.
Many of us have health issues which stop us doing the things we'd really like too.
It's sad that some people who have perfect health don't realise the extra effort which people who have ailments have to go to to achieve the things which they take for granted.
There are the things we can do with a little effort to get around the problem but other things we just can't do,so set about enjoying the things which we can do.
Outback
first aid for Asthmatics?
I've always wanted to know how to help an Asthmatic if we came accross one on our remote trips if they'd run out of their medication. Can you lend them a puffer or must they have their own.
What can you do for them when no Medication is available and you're
miles from anywhere.
Take care, safe travels.
Bye, Ma.

Ma..... no.no.no... I don't have asthma. I was just commenting because "Ray" said the fire was no good if you're asthmatic.... to me, if that's the case and a fire will affect your health, then don't go near it, or accept the consequences if you do.
The
first aid for asthmatics is a very good question though, and one I hope to find an answer for. I would imagine that a puffer would help though?????? I'm happy to stand corrected and maybe someone here on EO can answer that?
If I find the answer, I'll post it up here!
Scout's Honour!!
Cheers

Great topic Axle!!
I termed the fire "Channel One" and the Milky Way "Channel Two" on our trip, although I had used the terms for years.... but it stuck and we had others coming to our fire and saying things like "Good viewing on Two tonight, thought we'd pop over here and check out Channel One!".......LOL
After 7 weeks outback, I have now found that;
A) Although I didn't watch much TV before, I watch a LOT less now.....
and;
B) I'm not comfortable living back in the rat race and in a house. Bugger.
So now I have to save up for the next trip..... or win Lotto! LOL..
Cheers
Brian

Hi Brian,
I love the channel one and two thing. We leave for our beloved Desert very soon.
I'll try it on Hubby!!! Like what channel are you going to watch tonight? and see if he gets it right. We have channels 3 and 4 which are the sunsets and for hubby the sunrise.
Take care, safe travels.
Bye, Ma.

Brian , From midnight 29Aug to Midnight Jan2nd a Fire Danger Period is to be enforced ,,,, ALL fires ,even those LESS than 2 metre by 2 metre require a permit from the local Fire Warden ,, that means your
camping campfire needs a permit UNLESS it is in a properly constructed fire- place used for cooking ,,,,,,,,,all the rules / fines available at www.ruralfire.qld.gov.au

Hi Axle,
You're right, a wild turkey rum & Cola is better when it's freezing at night and a good hot cup of tea or coffee in the morning.
We also love to watch the dancing worm Like sparks that some types of wood put up.
Take care, safe travels.
Bye Ma.

Axle,
tuesday night we were sitting around a fire pit having a few beers, boys arked the fire up with a pallet and a cable drum, now the fire is great.
Old mate comes along and because we have a grasshopper plague he gives the nearby gums a bit of a shake,
well the grasshoppers take off and decide they will fly into the sun, results lots of baked grasshoppers. Thank god the cooks didn't see it or they would of been straight down and we would have been eating roast grasshoppers for a week.
Have a good one.
