Hi Guys me and the missus (and the dogs of course) are hoping to head of to 40 mile beach south of
Karratha next year in April - any pros or cons or any thing we need to know before we head out on our (return) great quest to the lovely north - not having been to this part of the coast before would appreciate any
feedback
Thanks Sim & the Sal (Boss)

hdkins,
A nice spot, right on
the beach, but lots of activity from gas hubs and iron ore ports under construction. We were there October last year and there were signs posted on a new gas line being put in right through the
boat ramp. I think that is happening now, so will be completed by the time you get there.
There is an onsite caretaker that will answer queries ands you pay the rent to. They are there from April to 1st October (start of cyclone season)
Can get crowded, camping areas are scattered both north and south of main area. not much shade, scrubby coastal growth. You really need a boat to get to the mud crabs and good fishing offshore. Very high tide movements. No facilities apart from rubbish bin provided by Shire and emptied regularly and a 2 dump points (in very poor condition when we were there)
You must take and set up your own
toilet facilities
There were a couple of groups of people living there all year round and commuting to work in
Karratha (I quess because of the expense of renting a house in
Karratha)
Hope this helps
Cheers Wayne H

Wayne thanks for the info - found it very helpful - The boat will be out though as I will be towing the camper trailer and have net got a tinnie yet - got a kayak but - crabbing in that would be an adventure in itself
Cheers
