Going by his name I would say Mudgeeraba Qld, try google maps or RACQ travel site if the treks section on this site does not meet all your requirements (which I feel it will)

OK Mr Wolf, assuming from Qld. We toured through Qld last year and never heard of Mudgeeraba - but we were touring the inland. Hence i can't advise you on the best route to escape your own state.

When you get to Alice Springs (or near it if you don't want to go into town and replenish supplies), take the Gary Junction route which runs from the Tanami just north of Alice and takes a fairly straight route to Marble Bar. It is a good mainly dirt road as well as being an interesting drive. You need permits for this part of the journey. For the NT side it can be obtained on line within 24 hours. For the WA side, you need to allow a few weeks. Clicking on the hyperlink on permit will show you the web addresses to apply for these permits.

How soon will you be travelling?

Geez Motherhen

Mudgeeraba is a suburb on the Gold Coast, it's located near Nerang or where the Gold meets the Green, the beginning of the Hinterland, great place to live away from the glitz of Surfers Paradise lol lol.

Mudgeebra ,my knowledge of this town is i think it was put on the map by that other great poly who served under Sir Joe ,Russ Heinze including a dam near there named after him.
Is that correct?

I prefer the trip planner on Goseeaustralia.com.au, which is i think the same on used by some other sites, as it has options. One option to add a town to go via, hence setting the direction. Another option is for fastest (bitumen road travel) or shortest (most direct on main maps - often dirt roads). It still sadly lacking as although it sometimes uses some pretty obscure tracks in the latter mode, it still doesn't pick up routes such as the Gary Junction road. Nothing beats a good map book.

Hope you checked out the availability of accomodation and cost of renting a house if you can get one before deciding to go over there.

Last year a 4 br house was fetching up to $2,000 a week if you could get one.
Van park is permanently full of workers We had to stay at Port Sampson 40k away.

We didnt notice them hardly at all

G'day Lee, have a safe and enjoyable trip across to WA. Most of the Karratha workforce does fly in/fly out from Perth, about a 2 hour flight. By the end of October Karratha will be starting to roast and is prone to cyclones. Enjoy your adventure and make hay while the sun shines.
