Does anyone know if you can replace the side mirrors on a 200 series to normal mirrors. I find the distant mirrors too dangerous.

There is an accessory company making towing mirrors that double as normal mirrors. By that I mean the simply pull out.

Check out one of the recent carvan mags (do not buy but wander to the newsagent and have a flick through) but not certain of the price. I suspect they will not be cheap.

I should have said they replace the ones that are currently mounted on the 200. I imagine they are also electric as mine are.

They are over $700 a set and only fit 100ser and Patrols ATM

This is themhttp://clearviewmirrors.com.au/models.asp

You could go to a glazier and get new mirror glasses cut to fit.

I did that on a HiAce but mirrors werent as flash as a 200

Best thing is just get used to them or use the inside mirror more.

hi
yes the convex mirrows definetly take some getting use too
as they make vehicles behind look further away than what they really are
and i'v e got into the habbit of never moving into the next lane until i can see the vehicle i have overtaken clearly in the center mirrow but that is more arkward when towing a large van have a look at

www.johncmor.com

they have flat glass and bolt onto your top roobar tube and flip out side ways when needed and back in while not being used one of the best systems i have seen but i have no idea what they cost
cheers

Ossie, go to a glass place, ask them to cut a mirror the same shape, sikaflex it on over the original, job done. It will be illegal, but with luck, no one will notice. Good luck

Wont be illegal its still a mirror. Lots used to do it in NZ where the import cars had convex mirrors.

You could buy an off the shelf mirror and replace it and its still legal.

Unfortunately would be ugly on a nice 200 but still doable

The main requirement is that they dont stick out beyond a set distance when not towing.

Hi Ossie72
I had a 79 series with left hand mirror the same as yours .
Went to glassier and he cut and stuck a normal glass it has been there for 5 years and a lot of courigations it must have been good glue anyway it fixed the problem.

I used these fellas a few years ago in Brisbane. Replaced a broken mirror real cheap. Not sure where you are but there is bound to be something similar in other major cities (if your near one). This is the link to thier website:Mirror Repacement

Convex mirrors were introduced as an initiative of the panel and paint industry.

Having said that tho, you will need to look over your shoulders no matter what you choose; either to see how far away a vehicle is with a convex mirror or to actually see the vehicle because of the blindspots with a flat mirror.

Good luck.
