Good luck with very recent info. It is not really often travelled in the centre part so information is usually dated. We went down it in May and saw one other car. The track is either sand or rock most of the time. It had been raining before we went down the track but the track was solid. We were just leaving shallow tracks in the sand. There are rough places and the vegitation intrudes onto and is growing on the track quite often. The spinifex seed stems were five to six feet high in the middle of the track so some care is needed to make sure they don't accumulate or the seeds block the radiator.

Have a good trip.

Rona,

I posted on conditions on the Gary Highwaylast week and also updated the track conditions. Here is a link to the POST 80678.

In a nut shell it is in reasonable condition (comparitively speaking of course). There are a few corrugations here and there, some washaways particularly around stoney rises and areas of increased runoff. The track has become enclosed by shrubs in a few places as well but overall it's a good track and would present no problems to a highclearance vehicle. I was towing a trailer as well so no issues there. Veevers turnoff is easily located and the track in, good. Wau Wau well will provide water if you have a bore dropper.

If you want a little extra challenge and to be some of the first people to do so, go and visit Carnegies Patience Well and Hideous Rockholes as recently rediscovered by our EO member Equinox (Alan). The track in is easy to find and follow (I know, I was following Equinox at the time) and he has also posted track files on the site.

Hope this helps.

Mick

Must've improved a lot since Jul 2009 Mick....the corrugations from The Tank camping area through to Everard Junction were bad then and they got worse once we turned onto the Gunbarrel........had to see the dentist when I got to Alice to reglue my fillings :-)

Pat22,

Yep I avoid the gunbarrel at all costs. It gets "Hell Road" status in my book. Much prefer to head south on the DCR or Hunt and then use the Great Central. Fillings and shockers at Alice...always lol!.

Cheers Mick.
