No 1 son is looking to buy a 2004 Ford Courier 4x4 with the 2.6 L petrol engine. Do these engines have a timing belt or a timing chain ? the vehicle has done 103,000km but did not have the 100k service yet and that's when they usually recommend changing timing belts and they are expensive to service. Hope someone can help. Cheers, Old Mal

Hi Mal. If it has black plastic covers down the front it will probably be a belt. If it has alloy covers then it will probably be a chain. Regards, Bob

hi old mal
i have a service book on the B2600's they have a chain but the service schedule does'nt give any advice for service beyond 90,000km's
as its a chain and runs in engine oil i dont think you would have to change it at 100th k's like a belt
they still had the B2600 engine in 2006 so if yours is a 2004 its has a chain for sure
ring a dealer service center they should be able to tell you if they are honest
when it should be changed and how much it should cost that much
as they connect the new chain to the old one and then past it around the sprocket until the new chain appears at the top where you can then disconnect the old one and connect the new ones ends together saves taking the front of the motor off but of course you have to have the timing marks in the correct positions ?
this is as per the instructions in the service manual
but on my '88 navara 2.7 diesel it had a chain i sold it at 138000km and the next owner never changed and it either
it had 265000k's on it when he quit it
if it not rattling or having any timing issues dont bother a chain has to be very badly worn to be a problem imho
cheers
